I have a laptop with vista and a desktop with xp. I have a canon mp500 connected to the xp. I have mp navigator, cd labelprint installed on the xp. I have cd labelprint installed on the vista laptop. Through the network i can print using the cd labelprint, i can also print straight through any webpage, from file etc. When i tried to install mp navigator on the vista laptop i get an error that says the correct drivers are not installed.

Well it installs but when i try to open it i get the error. I have googled all sorts of combinations of questions and this seems to be a common problem. Has anyone got any fresh ideas?? I do not know of any previous drivers function in vista. The following procedure may help though. Go into Control Panel and into printers. Then, right click on your printer.
There should be a 'run as administrator' option which slides out a menu. From this menu, select Properties.

Then you get a UAC query. In the properties window, go into the advanced tab and check which driver is currently being used for your printer. If the correct one is not selectable, click on the 'New driver.' From this, an installation window appears, click next, select through the list your printer manufacturer and model to see if there is a driver for it in the driver store that comes with vista. If there is one in this list it should work with your computer. Hope this works. Just to add to LW's point, I had this same constant battle to get the MP Navigator to recognize the drivers.
You have to install MP Navigator first, and make sure you install the drivers and MP Navigator from the same Canon support website for the same model and OS otherwise it doesn't work. Uninstall all the other Canon drivers first. Do it by right clicking from programs on the start menu, not from Control Panel or Advanced Uninstaller or whatever other program you use. Nothing like Canon making it difficult for us. Also check you have the correct Twain driver as well as WIA driver.
I installed a twain driver from a normal Canon scanner as the MP drivers set up didn't seem to give one, and some other software update had deleted or altered the path of the scangear.exe file. Essentially, much though I like the Canon Pixma I have to give it to HP for their superior software. Although they are better than Lexmark, to be fair.
And as for Canon support, forget it. I have actually had the same problem and found the solution thanks to both the posts here and calling canon tech support. It turns out there are several different versions and installing a different version will work.
To locate the version that is correct for your printer go to the canon website and click the drivers and support tab. Choose your printer and operating system then in the list that will come up with the drivers for your printer, and the correct version of mp navigator will also be located in that same list. Install the drivers first then install mp navigator.
Also when in doubt call tech support and just follow their instructions they are very helpful.
